Company timeline: Spode was founded in 1770 and was run by the Spode family until 1833, after which it was taken over by William Taylor Copeland. It was known as Copeland Spode later W. T. Copeland and Sons, and the Spode brand was revived in 1970. The company was acquired by Portmeirion in 2009.
